Jeruk Nipis (C. Aurantifolia)

Filed under: Fruit — admin @ 1:57 am

jeruk nipisThese are limes, or something very similar. They are perfect little globes, bright green, with a thin hard skin. They are, of course, very sour, but fresh lime juice, with iced water and sugar, is one of the most delicious soft drinks you can imagine in the sticky heat of a Jakarta afternoon. It is called simply air jeruk (air= ‘water’). Lime juice with salt, honey, boiling water and a little root ginger (but no sugar) is excellent for a sore throat or a cough.
